Garmin and Apple Watch swim sync setup: complete checklist

Avoid failed uploads and missing workouts with a clean setup process for watch-based swim tracking.

Quick answer

First identify what is missing: a planned workout on your watch, a recorded swim in the app, or a completion mark in your plan. For Garmin, check the handoff through Garmin Connect. For Apple Watch, use the separate iPhone and Watch setup instructions linked below.

First identify what is missing

A planned workout is the set you want to follow. A recorded activity is the swim you have saved. A completion mark belongs to the training plan. Check which one is missing before repeating the setup process.

Keep the workout name and swim date handy so you can compare the same session across your phone, watch and training plan.

Put this guidance into practice with structured swim training in the DuoSwim App.

Garmin: locate the last successful transfer

Use these checkpoints in order. They help narrow down the handoff that needs attention, rather than treating every missing item as the same problem.

  • Planned workout absent from Garmin Connect: check your DuoSwim Garmin connection, then send the intended workout from DuoSwim.
  • Workout visible in Garmin Connect but absent from the watch: select it in Workouts, use Send to Device, and sync the selected compatible watch.
  • Saved swim absent from Garmin Connect: check that the activity was saved on the watch and that the watch has synced with Garmin Connect.
  • Activity visible in Garmin Connect but absent from DuoSwim: check Garmin Sync and the authorised account in DuoSwim. If it remains missing, contact DuoSwim support with the workout details.

Apple Watch has its own setup steps

Use the Apple Watch instructions for installation, sending a workout from your paired iPhone and recovering a missing completed swim. Garmin Connect is part of the Garmin workflow, so the two setup paths should be checked separately.

The swim is recorded, but the plan is not marked complete

When the swim is already logged in DuoSwim, check the plan separately. DuoSwim’s support guidance recommends closing and reopening the app if the workout remains unmarked. If that does not resolve it, contact support with the account email and workout name.

Keep the original session details available while asking for help. A recorded swim and a plan completion mark are different checks; one screen alone does not explain where a sync stopped.

Practical takeaway

Apply one change at a time, keep the workout conditions comparable, and review several sessions before changing direction.
